Hey everyone,
Just thought I'd let you know that this weekend I presented my paper The Illusion of Choice at the SUNY Oneonta Undergraduate Philosophy Conference 2009, the largest and most prestigious annual undergraduate philosophy conference in North America. Papers are submitted every year from all over the world, are subject to blind review, and are put through a very selective selection process.
This year 30 papers were accepted, including one from Alaska and two from Hawaii. The keynote speaker was Thomas Jackson, a philosopher from the University of Hawaii.
Presenters are allotted 20 minutes to present their papers (or subsets of their papers), then each paper's discussant gets 3 minutes to ask question and/or make comments before opening up discussion to the floor for 10-15 minutes.
My presentation was extremely well received, in fact so much so that at the awards banquet I was given the final award of the evening: the president's award for best presentation. Since I won an award, my paper will be published in the conference proceedings, which is a book that is printed and released every year containing the best group of paper's from that year's conference.
It was a wonderful time; simultaneously humbling and confidence boosting.
Brian
