In your stage orf parlour acts, what music do you typically use? Any good recommendations?
I currently use the music of Cirque Du Soleil in my manipulation acts. I also use Blackbird ( the rendition from Across The Universe) for my Zombie routine.

It depends on what kind of audiance you are performing for. you want to stay current. I just saw Greg Frewin's show. It was great and he used a lot of current music like gog goo dolls I think it was. A lot of good tunes. If you are working with kids try to find out what kind of music they are into. Right now kids g crazy for High School Musical. Guess what soundtracks I just got.
Give the people what they want.

Hmm interesting. Does the HSM music really work with magic? I can't picture it doing so. For me, I try to avoid lyrics as much as possible. That's why I love Cirque Du Soleil!

Most people use music with lyrics. In another topic I just posted that Greg Frewin used Bon Jovi, Goo Goo Dolls, etc. All with lyrics. And it was great.
Then if you are spaking you would not want a song with lyrics. But if you are just doing manipuilation or Illusions Lyrics all the way.

Just recently I started to use music in my shows.. Best thing I could have ever done. Everyone likes a little music now and then.. I use 2 CDs one is a CD that I got when I purchased Bill abbots THE THING. The other CD I bought a little while ago called "Sounds of the Sourcerer" it has tons of great music and I highly recommend it!

Yes, this is true, when Greg Frewin does stage illusions: I saw him at Hamilton Tigercats stadium, and he did tiger productions and stuff. Yes, lyrics are dandy when there are thousands of people and you're doing illusions, but in a parlour show completely disagree. Lyrics are a no-no, unless used crucially in the right context, such as the lyrics have to do with the effect in some way.
PS: My mentor and Greg were best friends as a kid, and were both mentored by the same guy, Doug Bashum (if that's how you spell it)-- he said they even did a talent show act together

I'm talking to a guy named Will Huston about coming in and doing some lectures. One of the things he talks about is music in his show. I'll give more details when I have them.
Also, one of the tips Josh Jay gave me is to work on a 20 min or so silent act, to music, so that I can travel anywhere in the world and perform (regardless of language barriers).

About 2 hours ago I got home from Cuba! It was wonderful! But to get to the point there was a magician at my resort who performed one of the nights as the entertainment, the magician only spoke Spanish (maybe a little English, but not enough). In his audience there were people who spoke English, Spanish, French, German etc. He put on a 45 minute silent magic show with music playing in the backround. Not only was it great but everyone could understand what he was doing, and nothing had to be translated! On top of all that I have to say it was one of the best magic shows I have ever seen, it was different in a way which made it really interesting. If you have the material and time time to put together a show like this I would highly recommend it, I was think about doing one myself (although only 20 - 30 minutes).
