oh well, i was wondering what you guys would advise buying for some hard hitting magic for the new school year.

Depending on your style, I'd go for either Vernon Chronicles Volume 1 or Chris Kenner's Totally Out Of Control... I've pretty much devoured those books this summer and am working extra hard on some select pieces to get ready for the new school year!

I think these are TERRIBLE suggestions.

Just terrible.

Liam, I suggest Card College or Bobo's.

I LOVE the Kenner book.  I also LOVE the Vernon book.

But I wouldn't recomend them to you.

I had a friend, a personal trainer, who offered to help me get in shape.  He came over and told me start with barbell curls... 50lbs in each hand (then increase the weight for the next set).

What terrible advice!

It was to much for me to handle, which means I ran the risk of injuring myself.  As it happened I didn't... because I just didn't do the work.

So, are the books good?  sure!  There are THOUSANDS of good books, but some aren't the best options to get at first.

The vernon book has quite a few ideas you can only use once you have a firm grasp of card work.  If you don't have card college, I reckon you don't (no offense meant).  Kenner's book is full of some fairly difficult work, and a lot of which you won't use often.

Mike asked me about those books, and I suggested that if he was interested he should get them.  But then he took my advice, without understanding it, and posted it here.

Get card college.

p.s.
Hope to see everyone at Eric Mead this sunday, and Josh Jay in two weeks!

I'll be at Eric Mead for sure... sorry, Liam and Ben, I wasn't thinking.

I revoke my suggestions and I highly recommend you pick up either a volume of Card College, Card College Light, and the Semi Automatic Card Tricks series. Don't dismiss these suggestions as they may sound amateurish... there are a few excellent semi-automatic effects I use on a regular basis to great response! Plus, they are much more bulletproof then something based entirely on heavy sleights, simply because with a lot of semi automatic effects, it's extremely difficult to get caught.
