Liam

watching, will reply soon!
Michael Kras

That's the excellent song Radio Nowhere by Bruce Springsteen, found on his album (take a guess..)..... Magic.
Liam

wow, that was pretty good!
I couldnt tell what happened for the very first trick, the one with the two of hearts.
But the rest of the tricks were great.
I think that its amazing how you can get great reactions with fairly simple sleights, like double lift, endernase change, and showing the same card four times Razz

ps, what is the song that always plays during the intro?
BrianMillerMagic

This second video is much better than the first one, at least in terms of presentation.  Well done Michael.  My only criticism is that right after an effect where you moved the ink to and from cards in all kinds of crazy ways, you went into the next effect saying, "Ink cannot come off of cards."  Oops Smile
Ethan the Emazing

Def. much better then the first. Audio still was really bad though.

Thank you Brian and Liam! We will have more footage tomorrow!

Liam, rthe first effect was only the end of an effect called Reflex. That one had only a reaction filmed, and it was a pretty darn good reaction, so I kept it in.

When performing for that crowd, simplicity is key. When I start performing, it's normally 2-4 people watching. For them I do complicated sleight of hand work as the angles are great and there is no fear of detection. However as a crowd grows and angles weaken, I go to the simple, yet KILLER material. That normally includes packet tricks, Triumph, Ambitious Card, Reset, Las Vegas Leaper, and tons of other effects you can do surrounded with less knuckle busting moves.
BrianMillerMagic

Oh and Michael - was that first coin vanish a JW grip?  If it was, then kudos on a great JW.
Reuben The Great

hey everyone here is the second Reuben Gazer video in Westmount magic, hope you all enjoy!Smile

wow, that was really good too!
some clasics in that one.
Two card monte, coin matrix.
I really like your presentation of the two card monte, very original!
The way you made him anounce that he was POSSITIVE wich order the cards were in was a great way to build it up.
And the aces being flipped in the middle of the deck was a very nice touch for the ending
Reuben The Great

thanks so much, almost every trick i do i have adapted it to my own needs, like 99% of them. the aces being turned over bit, ive performed it that way forever-- surprisingly, its sometimes more effective than the original effect!
Liam

also you skipped the part where you do the move you just showed them a bunch of times quickly. Not sure if you know what part i'm talking about, but very nice!
I pretend to scramble them around, and then i ask them wich one they think is on top. They always pause for a second, because they arent sure. Durring that second i say "I understand why that would be hard" i reach behind there head "because the aces are over here" i say as i pull the two aces out from behind them
Reuben The Great

thats a really good ending to the effect, i shall try that tomorrow:D
Liam

and i'll try your way Razz

You mean two card transpo?
Reuben The Great

no not a two card transpo (as in using a dupe) but the aces switching, and then ey turn into the queens. look at the video:D, david blaine does the effect.
BrianMillerMagic

Aw Reuben and Liam, such magician brotherly love.  What a wonderful thing.
Reuben The Great

brotherly love? lol

i'm not sure wich part of my post your reffering to, but i dont think i meant two card transpo
Ethan the Emazing

I know. The original two card monte uses a gaff. Its really only been called the "two card monte" since Blaine did it on tv.
Reuben The Great

Ethan the Emazing wrote:

i dont think it uses a gaff, i just did the exact david blaine two card monte in my video, regular deck.
Ethan the Emazing

"I really like your presentation of the two card monte, very original!" that part. And the "real" name for that effect is the two card transpo.
Ethan the Emazing

The two card transpo has been referred to as "The two card monte" since Blaine did it. The original TCM used gaffs. The two card transpo is the effect you did.
Reuben The Great

a two card transpo is different. i also perform that, its you give one person the say 6 of clubs, and the other person (showing the card before each time you give it to them) and they switch places in the peoples hands, using DLs and a dupe.
BrianMillerMagic

To the best of my knowledge, Ethan is correct.  The Two Card Transpo is what David Blaine did, although he and others began referring to it as Two Card Monte.  The original Two Card Monte was a gaffed card effect.
BrianMillerMagic

As this discussion continues, I become less and less sure of myself.
Liam

i really have no idea if thats the real name Razz

but as long as you know the trick i'm talking about, its all good
Reuben The Great

thanks liam  Laughing

but for clearance, im PRETTY sure, not exactly, that the david laine one (where the aces are suposedly changing places, but change with queens) is the two card monte, the only version i know, an un gaffed one at that, and the transpo[i] is where two cards switch places, simple as that, but an amazing effect. i could post a video if that would make clearance. anyway, can you guys explain the gaff version of the two card monte? how would that work:S
Ethan the Emazing

That won't help for "clarification" I know what I am talking about, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything. And explaining the original would be exposure, which is against my and the forums rules.
Reuben The Great

im sorry about the almost exposure there, but i just figured everybody knows the double lift. im sorry i got you anrgy liam, i just know them both and probably have been referring to them wrong.
Reuben The Great

sorry, i meant getting ETHAN angry, sorry about that.
Liam

ReubenGazer wrote:

i got mad?
jeez, i gotta use more smiley faces Razz Smile   Smile
Reuben The Great

i meant ETHAN:p
Liam

that makes more sense Razz
Ethan the Emazing

I wasn't angry, just try and reffer to it as a DL from now on. Thanks.
Ethan the Emazing

Since this discussion became so interesting to me, I've been researching it, etc...and Magicast episode 4's topic will be this "The 'new' two card monte? Its roots, and REAL name."

So if you found this discussion interesting, and want to find out the answers to the questions stated, be sure to check out magicast episode 4 when it become available at http://www.myspace.com/magicast
BrianMillerMagic

I've edited Reuben's post so it now reads 'DL' instead.  All is good.

Yes, it was a JW and thank you for the compliment!

More footage coming soon!

MODERATOR EDIT: Liam!  The point was that we abbreviate that particular sleight as "DL" instead of using its real name on a public forum.

And some critisism for mike
someone posted this as a reply to my thread about WestMount (on another forum)

Quote:
and i didn't like the beret guy's style of magic, it's too jay sankeyish, it's almost cloned, no originality whatsoever.

yes, i think he was reffering to you as "the beret guy"

Hey, could you please link me up to this forum?

Thank you.

Thank you, Liam... I had a few things to say, that's for sure.
Liam

good job standing up for yourself Smile
and dont take anything people on those forums say.
they are really a bunch of young children and youtube magicians.
and i think a large percentage of them enjoy that forum more then they enjoy doing magic Razz
Reuben The Great

hey gus, heres the link to my rant about those n00bs posting about us on free magic school,  i gave them a firm talking to:P.

Goody Reuben... how mature of them... someone replied calling our project "Weeselmoont".
Liam

wow, that forum (fms, not magicanada) is really arguing now
and i'm the only one on your side!
you guys better keep checking in
Michael Kras

Checked it out... ahh...
Liam

watch out though!
this forum will lock any thread that goes into too deep of a discussion!
BrianMillerMagic

Michael, Reuben, seriously think about what you're doing.  If it really is a forum full of "noobs", then why even deal with it?  What do they know?  You guys are both better than that; don't stoop down to their level.  Let it go and laugh about it.

For the record Reuben, calling them "noobs" to their faces just provoked them and that's why there is so much hostility in that thread now.  Additionally, the ability to execute difficult sleight of hand does not make a great magician.  I've seen many of the greatest magicians in the world inspire awe and wonder in their audience with the simplest of self-working effects.  Think about that.
Michael Kras

Reuben and I are just trying to say we do not appreciate the "critisisms" that don't even qualify as critisisms. Anybody who called our project Weaselmoont can't have too valid of an opinion.
BrianMillerMagic

Precisely.  It's heckling plain and simple, but instead of doing it during a performance, they're doing it on an internet forum.  How do we deal with hecklers?  Ignore them, and don't egg them on.
Michael Kras

Ok, Brian, good point.

More footage next week!
Liam

aw, all the way next week?
Liam

... no new episodes?
Michael Kras

Not yet unfortunately... however, we will definitely have a lot of new footage this week! Promise!
Liam

i hope so, it was a good youtube channel!
Michael Kras

Westmount Magic 3 is up! I look forward to your thoughts, comments, and feedback!

BrianMillerMagic

Hey Michael,

I really enjoyed the 9s effect with the transposition.  The concept of the effect is really good, but you need to SLOW DOWN!!!  Allow people a moment to absorb each different climax building up to the final transpo/revelation.  Fiber Optics is starting to get there, but I do think you still need to work on the handling, and for goodness sake get some whiter ropes man.  Very Happy

Brian
Michael Kras

Thank you for your comments Brian! Thye are much appreciated! I agree I was going rather quickly, so Reuben and I are filming again tomorrow and we plan on kicking it up a notch! The reactions seemed to be very minimal today, so we plan on changing that.
Liam

very well done!
fiber optics never seemed like a school-bound effect to me, but you prooved me wrong!
cant wait for more
