Walk around gigsHey!, i was planning out my script/act today for my more parlour/ intimate setting walk around magic show gigs. I was thinking about what to change ect., and how to make it better, and would like to ask you guys, what do you usually bring to a walk around gig, as in, going from table to table for example and performing what you like. Do you manage to carry everything in your pockets? do u have a case?, or maybe you only use borrowed objects from spectators. Let me know:)!
Thanks!
Robert.

Hi There Robert,
Whenever I do walkaround, I wear a nice suit jacket with a black t-shirt underneath and some dress pants with deep pockets. I always carry a hankerchief, a handful of half dollars, three decks of cards (one gaffed or stacked), and some packet and pocket tricks. I usually keep the cards in the left and right suit pockets, tuck the packet tricks and the hanky into my inner breast pockets, and all of the coin-related magic goes in my pants pockets. Just make sure everything is easily accessible at all time... nothing worse than creating 10 seconds of dead air as you fumble to find the proper materials.

Hey Robert,
I usually carry around two decks, one stacked like Mike said, usually a deck of all jokers. I carry a handkerchief, a couple halfs and a jumbo half dollar, some ropes for Richard Sanders Fiber Optics (amazing, I think we talked about this trick at the shop actually) business cards of course for their regular use and for tricks involving them, and a thumbtip. Hope this helps!
PS. You don't need to be so nice in your responses lighten up

I'm not a member of that yet, jsut haven't had the time to join, BUT i definetely recommend coming to the other club's potluck christmas dinner meeting-- performances and food! It's a lot more laid back, you can be yourself more than the ring 49-- you'll se what I mean. I encourage you to come, December 18th-- we'll takl more about it later!

Ring 49 is my preferred club. People know what they are talking about there and it's very friendly. Come on, at the Hamilton Burlington club only you, Jim, Ron, Peter, and I ever do anything. I don't even know if half of the people who come to that club even do magic.

First off, always perform what you like. If you don't like it, don't perform it.
As far as what to bring with you, I read a newspaper article years ago which was very enlightening. The reporter told the story of sitting at a table and described someone who walked up to a table, and explained how he was awkwardly dressed, with his pockets overstuffed... he was a magician.
For the rest of your magical career, you will be in a constant struggle to find a balance between being able to perform the widest variety of magic, making it as strong as possible all while bringing with you as little as possible.
Personally, I say stay away from cases. The perception will be that if you need to carry a case with you to do magic, then the magic comes from the case and you, by implication, become less magical. I usually bring a case with me, transfer what I need to my pockets and then lock the case and hide it in a corner somewhere. That also gives me the freedom to switch to a different set of tricks halfway through the night if I want to.
A good piece of advice is to make sure you don't have more than one version of the same trick on you at a time. For example, you wouldn't want to have the Endless Chain in one pocket, your three shells in another AND your Ultimate Three-Card-Monte in your wallet - they're all the "same trick" done with a different prop.
Ultimately, the answer to your question lies at the end of a long and difficult road of trial and error which will probably take you five to ten years to really figure out.

yes, but people aren't so judgemental, and besides, its a better place to build your reputation FOR the ring 49. Get Jim to like you and eveyrbody will.

Nobody at Ring 49 is judgemental at all. Get Jim to like you and everybody will? That's not true.

A little bit of a mis-statement.
Either way, you'll see Robert. Just come to the other clubb too, you'll see
And you have to admit Michael, if you have a new CLOSE UP effect or something you wantshow off, the other club is the best place to do it, not ring 49.

Not true. As stated before, not too many regulars at the other club know their stuff other than Jim and maybe Ron and Peter too. Most others just watch and acknowledge a good performance. Ring 49'ers know what they are doing and they can give priceless pointers and tips to improve an effect. The Hamilton-Burlington Club is just a great place to show off .

No need to start a competition, ill try the ring 49 as well as the other club. The reason i wanna sign up is to make magic buddys, and improve.
