Session: The Magic of Joel Givens by Joshua Jay

This is not a review... I may post one later on, but I think this book deserves a brief honourable mention.

Just wanted to say that this is the best magic book I've bought in a while. Visual, hardhitting knucklebusters that are real worker's pieces. Right now I am currently working on or performing:

Brain Cleaner- The magician visually shoves a full Q-Tip into his ear. This will get just about anyone to cringe because it looks so REAL.

More Memory Man: Without a doubt one of the best Mem. Deck routines in existance. Also, it is one of the most convincing out there. Nobody I have shown it to has doubted that I can memorize an enitre shuffled deck in less than 10 seconds, especially since you tell them exactly where their selected card is in the deck AND which card is missing since a spectator secretly removed one prior to the effect. And cutting to the mates of this removed card is the icing on the cake.

Collectors For Collectors: A sleek, fair Collectors effect in which the Aces never even go near the deck. Absolutely fantastic and a real sleight of handish worker's piece.

Sponge Aces: Good GOD where has this been all my life! This instantaneous, visual transposition of the Four Aces and a pair of two card is so sleek, smooth, and never fails to freak out even some great move monkeys.

Kicking Ace: This is a nice variation of Richard Sanders' four ace production, and basically the four aces are produced instantaneously and visually during a pretty little flourish.

Uncrossed Cross Cut Force: This quickly became one of my favourite original card forces. So fair, so beautiful, I love it!

Lean Time: A deck of cards is balanced on the edge of your flat palm using no gimmicks. You even remove cards from the deck while it is suspended! This is a very nice stunt that actually looks very nice (I had my doubts until I tried it) and has a fair, clean ending.

This book also contains a sleeveless coin effect with a coin fountain climax, an impromptu Ring Flite using the magician's watch that ends totally clean, a superb routine with a cup of coffee, and so much more. You will love this book!!!!

Any thoughts, questions, comments? Does anyone else here own thois book?

Michael
