My Theory On Publicity Stunt PredictionsWe've all likely either heard of these or actually seen these... top name mentalists, and more obscure ones, predicting major event outcomes such as the winner of the Superbowl, Elections, reality shows, etc. Here is my theory to the possible method.
You good ol' basic out system... numerous predictions in other words, ones that are produced in a logical and bulletproof manner. Also, because these events usually have a rather small and limited amount of people, such outs are possible. Take for example The Superbowl. A workable method could be a prediction written on an envelope and a second prediction actually inside the envelope.
Any other good ideas as to a method for this sort of stunt?

you could use one of those emvlopes with two pockets for the presidential election. Simply make one prediction, put it in, then infront of a large audience write a different one and put it in the other pocket.
leave it in full view till you know the result, then open it up the required way

But, you'd likely need more than two outs for an election... thoughts?

not in the states, but if you wanted to cover all your bases you cuold use a four slip envelope

Makes sense... or you could have two-way predictions... I know my friend James Biss makes this plastic postage envelope gimmicks out of ordinary plastic postal enveloped so it's a double bag that is totally examinable.

How about a mechanical safe containing a hidden device which writes the prediction on a blank piece of paper?
Or, in the case of a "reality" show, bribe a producer to tell you who they're going to make win.

ya, reality shows would probably tell you who would win for free, the publicity for the show would be great if you got on national television with your prediction

Perhaps it could be loaded on stage in an isolated spot via the use of a backstage assistant to eliminate dodgy handling by the mentalist as well as providing much cleaner visible handling.
Hey, if we could really predict these things, we would show the prediction BEFORE the event took place.... Screw good theater.

ya, we'd anounce winning lotto numbers like a week ahead, make everyone win!

I know this is an old topic and everything, but MIke, why did you refer to James Biss as "your friend"-- you told me when he lectured at the club that was your first time meeting him.

to meet James is to be his friend.

I never said that was my first time meeting him... far from it!!!!! I had an excellent long conversation with the man at dinner one Christmas, he did a key bend for the waiter that BLEW MY MIND.
