My first show-ish like thing!Yesterday, for my moms birthday i gave her a magic show!
It was about 20 minutes long.
And it was my first show!
I've done tricks for people in the past, but never a show.
And it went over great.
It was really fun, and exilorating, and it built up alot of convidence.
And Brian, i want to thank you for writing such a great ebook!
I closed with a signed variation of silenced, and it was the biggest hit.
I also did the four card game, just in the middle, and it was good too.
With this show, i learned alot.
-Practicing for hours on end is totally worth the result of the reactions i get.
-A trick is not its method. When i first started magic, in october, i showed my family "this 'n that". I had no planned out patter or jokes. I basically failed to amaze them, although i had the method down pretty well. Last night i showed it, and it was loved by all. Also, this n that is a very easy to do trick. But it got better reactions then some really tough ones
-I no longer beleive in the too perfect theory. I was worried that silenced was to perfect, but in the end it was loved.
One thing kinda confused me though. I did one trick called the "ten card poker deal". In this trick, the preformer takes ten cards and him and a audience member play a game of poker. Every round the magician makes it easier for the audience member to win, ending in a round in wich the spectator shuffles the ten cards, then chooses wich card goes to wich player, and still looses.
This effect went over fantasticly!
Wich compleatly surprised me. I'm still wondering why everyone liked it so much
And thats all i have to say really. Not sure why i posted this, it just felt right

Liam,
So great to hear a story about a first show that isn't a tragedy! Putting hours into practice and rehearsal certainly pays off, and you hit the nail right on the head: a trick is not its method. Incidentally, the reason people enjoy the 10 card poker deal is because humans naturally enjoy watching others fail. Basically, its entertaining to watch an audience member fail over and over again, so long as everyone understands that the demonstration is all in good fun. Also, it touches on a subject that most people are very familiar with, which is gambling.
Thanks for the comments about my ebook. I'm glad Silenced worked out so well for you. Also, it's nice to hear that you've experienced first hand why I don't believe anything can be "too perfect."

Congrats on your first show, glad to hear it went well! Odd to ear about Ten Card Poker Deal though, I've never thought of it as a killer effect. However I can see it playing well for avid poker fans.
