Garrett ThomasJust thought I would make my first post about the magician and friend I owe all of my magical knowledge to. Every other magician has served only as an example of the principles he's taught me.
Garrett Thomas knows not only the technique, but also the psychology behind illusions and why they work. He mantains the tradition of, as he calls it, a "Real Life Magician" style of performance that creates performances that are to be remembered for a long time. When Garrett performs, people don't watch tricks: they meet a magician. I am lucky to have met him.
Everyone do themselves a favor and become fans of his work. His material can be found on his L&L DVDs: Inside the mind of Garrett Thomas. Learn it all then forget it all only to understand the thought proccess of what it takes to create a miracle. This is the best advice I can give anyone hoping to become more than just a trickster. Garrett is the real deal.
Just Thought i'd share.

Thank you for posting about such a creative and different thinker in magic. I remember one of the first lectures I ever saw being a Garrett Thomas lecture. At one point he fooled me so badly that I literally exclaimed out loud, VERY loud. The room became silent and Garrett looked right at me and chuckled. Normally I would have been embarassed by that but I felt I had an excuse. For the record, the thing that fooled me badly was his technique for a striking illusion of puting a jumbo coin inside a tiny coin purse, making the coin gradually shrink as it went inside.

Couldn't have said it better Alex. Study his work, learn it all, then forget everything you learned.
