CoincidencesSomething similar will probably have happened to most everyone, but I'll share a very bizzare coincidence that happened to me just today.
I was watching some Derren Brown episodes that I have on iTunes, and he did some direct mindreading with some Oxford students. That got me thinking about a particular effect that I perform using some of Derren's principles which involves a verbal force of a playing card. An old deck of cards that I fiddle with around the house was sitting a few feet from me, so I grabbed it in order to run through my effect. As I searched through the deck I discovered that there is one and only one card missing from it - the card I use as a verbal force in the effect.
Michael Kras has posted a short essay about effortless miracles, and sometimes simply playing the odds and hoping for a coincidence with some spectators can make miracles happen. I create opportunities for these types of things now built right into a bunch of my effects. If they work then it's a miracle, and if they don't then I just continue on with the effect.
Anyway after this I'm quite certain Derren owns my soul. Anyone else have strange coincidence stories?

Oh yeah... at my Grade 8 Graduation Reception, I would on occasion hold a card up to someone's face, face down, then ask them to name any card. They would name one, then I would dramatically turn over the card and say in a mysterious voice, "Wrong!"... just a little gag that always got a good chuckle.
Anyway, I did the gag for the first time that night for a guy. I asked him to name a card and he slowly conjured up the words "Four Of Diamonds" from the back of his brain. Sure enough, the card was the Four Of Diamonds. I mamaged to remain cool, let him react to the effect, then I went outside to get some air. I think someone must have spiked the punch.

It's such a great feeling when that happens - almost like we can do this sh*t for real. Almost.

something like that happened to me once, but i was the spectator.
after showing my little sister some magic, she wanted to try. She had never done magic before and she was kinda kidding the whole way through. She got me to pick a card (queen of spades) and then let me shuffle it in and cut the deck a few times. Then she cut the deck once, and lifted the top card, looked at it, and said "was it.... the queen of spades?" as she flipped over the card she had in her hands, the queen of spades
when i said yes she was almost as amazed as me
