Closers

What is your favourite closer to use in close-up performance? Parlour performance?

An impromptu closer I frequently use is my Oil and Water routine with a full deck seperation climax... many people think Oil and Water is boring and bland but when presented correctly and constructed with phases getting more impossible, it is a veyr powerful effect. I recently included Dai Vernon's fourth phase to the Oil and Water published in The Vernon Chronicles Volume One which is fun to perform and very impossible.

For a rehearsed and planned performance I frequently close with Dominique Duvivier's Printing routine... a brilliantly visual routine that packs a punch and always leaves my spectators happy.

However, fore more formal situations, I have a feeling The Iguana by Juan Pablo will become my new closer. It is a very elegant and impossible effect. Briefly, a card is selected, signed, and shuffled back into the deck. The deck is then cased, and if the magician wishes the case can also be signed. To make things more impossible the cased deck is fairly placed into a clear wine glass. Everything is now covered with a large green silk. Moments later, the silk is pulled off and it is revealed that the card case has impossibly vanished... only the open deck remains in the wine glass! The silk has nothing loaded into and may be examined at any time.

When the deck is spread by a spectator she discovers her signed card is missing... it has vanished. The magician fairly reaches into his pocket, pulls out the signed card case! Not only that, but the case is opened to reveal a single card sitting within... the signed selection! The gimmick is brilliant and this is a stunning piece of formal close up.

What do you feel makes a powerful closer? What do you do when a close fails on you?
