BuskerFest 2008!It's this weekend! I am very excited... I often work a couple of restaurants on the BuskerFest strip if the managers allow me to do so. A few good magicians too, including one coming all the way from Sweden named Chris Caper!
I will let you all know how it is!

Just got back from it... truly world-class entertainment! The highlight for me was talking to one of Sweden's best sleight of hand artists, Charlie Caper, who performed an awesome street cups routine and a bit of card work.
Watching him work also taught me a valuable lesson... even if we think laypeople might sometimes seee a gutsy sleight, they seldom do. This was proven to me today, because Charlie was working nearly surrounded and had to steal a can of Coke from his back pocket to load into his shoe... definitely not an easy task. As a magician, I watched him blatantly remove the can from his back pocket and load it into the shoe. However, when the actual production of the can occured, the people at the same viewing angle as me went nuts! They were in awe, and so was I... the steal was done so openly that I thought most of those of us at that angle would have caught it. Nobody except me did! Keep that in mind next time... as obvious as you may think something is going to be, it will almost always goe right over laypeoples' heads.

That's a valuable thing to be aware of. I remember a performance from a few years ago when I was surrounded, yet still somehow got away with a full cards to pocket routine. I think people naturally misdirect themselves sometimes. Glad Buskerfest was fun and you learned a lesson probably more valuable than any trick.
