If anyone cares, my stepfather is a 3D designer and he made the album cover for Kansas's greatest hits CD.

Okay, I'm going to have to classic rock all you noobs up. Classic rock is my LIFE. But sorry mike, i don't consider Springsteen a classic rocker .
I'm going with Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin, but can't find any good videos of it.
Maybe some Van Halen, Eruption Eddy Solo-- http://youtube.com/watch?v=ULEBSxP725w
Tom Sawyer or YYZ by Rush-- You show me a better drum solo than this, you win the lottery. Neil Peart is a genius.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wvgD9nfxKsc
Free Bird, Lynyrd Skynard. http://youtube.com/watch?v=O1mCQKuvzCM
I agree with MIke, Carry On Wayward Son (first post, check it out)
I'll go with my other fav band here, The Doors, with Touch Me.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=tUtVUgCy8lA
Highway Star by Deep Purple
http://youtube.com/watch?v=XOEvm1bAQi4
DON'T FEAR THE REAPER- BLUE OYSTER CULT, for all you oldies out there.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=cMYSWiPm7E0
And though may not count as classic rock, any beatles song. Here is a day in the life:

Try ANY of these songs, I GUARANTEE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Better drum solo than Neil Peart? He is a genius, but go check out anything from Keith Moon of The Who, or a solo from Alex Van Halen of Van Halen. Springsteen and the E-Street Band is definitely a classic rock band, as is The Beatles. I'm particularly enjoying a 15 year old kid trying to "school the noobs" on classic rock I wholeheartedly agree with your choices though Reuben.
|
Michael Kras
|
If anyone knows about classic rock here, it's Brian. The E-Street Band is most certainly classic rock, his Born To Run album is considered one of the greatest albums in history, as is his song Jungleland.

In my opinion, the greatest classic rockers of all time:
1. The Beatles
2. The Rolling Stones
3. Queen
4. Bruce Springsteen
5. Eric Clapton
6. (CANADIAN ALERT) The Guess Who
7. Led Zepplin
8. The Who
9. The Doors
10. Bachman Turner Overdrive

Rolling Stones
RHCP
Queen

Blue Oyster Cult
Black Sabbath
The Beatles of course
Aerosmith
Yes, My honest to god itunes library,
So YES michael, schooling noobs, except Brian, because he seems to nkow what he's talking about. And No Sugar Tonight By the Guess Who is great, I agree.
|
Michael Kras
|
The Guess Who is arguably the greatest classic rock band in Canada. ELO also deserves honourable mention, as does Hootie and the Blowfish.
And YOU DID NOT JUST SAY PEARL JAM! And you're not schooling anybody. We all have our own opinions about classic rock, as there are also officially listed opnions. I find that insulting.
|
Reuben The Great
|
Pearl Jam is classic rock for sure.
Some songs aren't that great but a lot are really, really good.
|
Michael Kras
|
Jackson 5 was not classic rock, it was pop.
|
Reuben The Great
|
OMG WE ALL FORGOT ABOUT AC/DC
Nodody can disagree, they're great, even if Bon Scott has no singing talent.
And, there songs may be simple, but how did they sell millions?
|

|
| Michael Kras wrote: | | Jackson 5 was not classic rock, it was pop. |
Actually, if you're talking about Jackson 5, you should know they aren't "pop" as there was barely that sort of thing in their time, they were Motown.
I know a little bit more about music than most people think
|
Michael Kras
|
There songs are very simple, too simple, and they are far too heavy adn loud for my taste. So I disagree.
|
Reuben The Great
|
heavy for YOUR tastes, but they are DEFINETELY considered classic rock, and in the standings for the best classics of all time.
And MIke, your comment on msn about how,
"Pop and Motown are the same, just with Black people?"
Don't appreciate that at all, thats jus tlow beyond low.
|
Michael Kras
|
That's not low whatsoever. Motown was started by black people and eventually inspired the work of pop artists.
|
Reuben The Great
|
Yes, and you say that since pop was inspired form motown, theyre the same.
Wow.
This must mean, that since rock was inspired from country and gospel, THEY MUST BE THE SAME!
|
Reuben The Great
|
Brian any input on this? I'd like to hear your opinion.
|
BrianMillerMagic
|
Actually, Motown was technically a fusion of soul and pop. Pop music was actually 'created' in the 50s, and simply refers to music that is popular based on sales, and generated for commercial appeal. Motown did not inspire Pop. Pop is really not even a genre of music even though it seems to be considered one. You'll notice in stores they have the category "Pop/Rock" which basically refers to anything rock plus anything that's a commercial success. Motown is a genre of its own and typically not lumped in with 'rock' or 'classic rock.' I would say that what Motown and Pop are considered to be, they are not in any way the 'same thing' with different cultures behind them.

Thank you, and just to show everybody:

Funny how the doors and zepplelin, favs of mine, are both on there.
WAIT, NO SPRINGSTEEN?
AND NO SPRINGSTEEN IN THE TOP 50 CLASSIC ROCK BANDS OF ALL TIME?
http://classicrock.about.com/od/r...ionsandreviews/a/top100_bands.htm
And funny, the ones I named:
Led Zeppelin
Blue Oyster Cult
The Doors
Deep Purple
ZZ Top
Van Halen
And ESPECIALLY, Ac/Dc.

Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the very first line of his induction is, "Bruce Springsteen ranks alongside such rock and roll figureheads as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Bob Dylan." Don't get your music source from an incomplete fan list at About.com.
|
Reuben The Great
|
Come on Brian, they say things such as this about everybody. I'm not saying Bruce isn't good, but I and many other people would not consider classic rock in the least.
|
Reuben The Great
|
Also,
What do you mean by imcomplete fan list?
I mean, they must be good if they're the list, fans or no fans.
Even so, then why isn't Bruce on there?
|
BrianMillerMagic
|
About.com is not even remotely an authority on music. Rolling Stone and the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame are the foremost authorities. He's not on that list because the random people who wrote that list didn't like him. Just like any other fan list on the internet. If I wrote a list of the greatest bands of all time, Led Zeppelin wouldn't be on it because I don't like them. Does that make it accurate? Of course not.
Why don't you think Bruce is classic rock, and what would you call him if not classic rock?
|
BrianMillerMagic
|
And for the record, no, the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame doesn't say that stuff about everyone. They only say it about those who've been inducted, which is the highest honor anyone can receive related to rock music in the entire music industry. You'll notice there's a relatively small list of people who have been inducted, and Spingsteen is right there alongside all the greats, including the bands you yourself like.
|
Michael Kras
|
He was also just indeucted into the New Jersey Hall Of Fame .
By the way, his album is Number 12 on the Rolling Stone Top 500 list.
|
Reuben The Great
|
Yes, new jersey hall of fame because new jersey is almost nothing compared to everything.
Hey Mike, I've just been inducted into the Reuben's Ownage Hall of Fame.
Also, Brian, look on even MORE sites. Look on the rolling stone.
Pretty sure Led Zeppelin is HIGH up there with a lot of others I named.
Do you agree that the Q107 list for CLASSIC ROCK is legitamate? I mean, It HAS TO BE, I mean, it's basically the classic rock station of Canada. It's even listened to in other countries.
And, take a look. Led Zeppelin? Geniuses.
|
BrianMillerMagic
|
That was precisely my point about Led Zeppelin. I don't like them, so I wouldn't put them on a greatest band list - but that doesn't mean they aren't one of the greatest bands. The lists generated by Rolling Stone, Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, etc are done by teams of experts that represent a cross section of the music industry as a whole.
|
Michael Kras
|
I also dislike Led Zepplin... the music they produce is, to me, very standard and plain. I've never understood the hype behind Dtairway to Heaven when there are MANY more songs with much more of a meaning to them.
And Bruce is most CERTAINLY classic rock. Classic Rock is not entirely dependant on sound... if it were, than Ozzy Osbourne wouldn't be classic rock at all... he'd be more death metal. Some of Bruce's songs redefined music... look at Jungleland, one of the greatest classic rock songs in history. It tells such a meaningful, deep story with some extraordinarily epic music and poetic lyrics.
|
BrianMillerMagic
|
Oh, well even though I dislike Zeppelin, I cannot deny their musical brilliance. Stairway to Heaven is a work of songwriting genius. Are you a musician Michael? If you are, I suggest you study that song by breaking it down from the ground up. The 'hype' will make more sense. If you're not, then you'll have to take my word for it.
