The other day i was thinking (yes it did hurt a lot Smile

) what about a website that lets people register (they have to take one of three tests beginner, intermediate or expert) and once registered can read book reviews, that other users (who are specifically chosen to write reviews) have wrote. The reviewer not only would review it and rate it they would have to put 'Ideal For...' then either Beginner, Intermediate or Expert then people who took the beginners text can read any reviews that are 'Ideal For Beginners' people who took the intermediate test can read reviews 'Ideal For Beginners and Intermediate' and people who took the expert test can then read them all. This would make it easy to find a book worth buying and get some ones views on it. People could also comment on the reviews to get their say in. Any ideas on this? I'm thinking of setting it up in the near future.

Are you suggesting that just because one is a beginner means he doesn't reserve the right to read others' opinions on higher level materials? I'm not sure that's a great idea. Plus, how could you "test" someone's skill level online? It's hard enough to test a skill level in person through a performance medium. I see where you're going though.

Valid points, at the moment its just an idea. but the whole idea of levels is not to discriminate rather then to help. Because if there are loads of reviews people might not actually read it properly, then end up buying a book they do not understand one bit. Then the whole idea of them getting their monies worth or getting the help would go out the window. Would that not then defeat the whole objective of the website?

I believe it would make more sense simply to organize a reviews site by difficulty level so that one can view reviews from whichever level they want to look at. It wouldn't keep them from purchasing a product that is above their difficulty level, but it would at least warn them. And also think about it: if you never tried to do something that was above your own level, you would never get any better!

I know where your coming from, maybe that idea was wrong, and I can see that. Maybe different colours Eg, Ideal For Beginners - green, Ideal for advanced - yellow and Ideal for experts - red, then people could search for the level they desire?
All in all though, your thoughts about the initial idea?

I don't think registering under a specific skill level is necessary but other than that, I like the idea! As a lot of people know, I am an avid reviewer and I am sure I would have a lot of reviews to post over time! Any other ideas for it?

Hmmm... What would make this different from any other review site? How is it better then another review site (such as http://magicreviews.com/welcome.htm)? Just things to think about. Not to be harsh at all, just to get you to think some more about it.

That's what I'm thinking.. it's got to have something different, a different approach, something like that... I'll post some ideas when they come to me. Any ideas from anyone else?

it would be cool if there was some kinda of search engine for them
like when you submit a review you have to give a bunch of info on it, then i could search in something like " 5 stars card magic book under 20 dollars"
and it would give me a list
