A new way to do an old trick!

Effect:
Spectator has a deck in a box handed to them.
They are asked to think a card, mearly think of one.
They announce their card
They hand you the box, you look through it and there is one face down card, and its the card they thought of!

Sound familiar?
Hopefully, it is the classic invisible deck routine.

But whats new?
The main things that make it new:
-impromtu
-ungimmicked
-no setup
-borrowed deck
-the spectator can be the one to go through the cards and find one face down

Fairly hard to do though. With a month or two of practice i've given to it i get it about 80-90 percent of the time. When it doesnt work, there are SO many ways you can go, so it seems like nothing bad has happened

This sounds extremely interesting... totally impromptu!! Sounds like you have a really cool idea here! Does it have a practical, fair handling and method?
Liam

yes i would call it practicle
you NEED to have a back up plan, because it does fail.
I always try to put in chances for miricles into all my routines.
This is just basically a miricale that works more often than most
Michael Kras

Liam and I have discussed the method in private... I really like it! It's a very clever idea using a technique I have always been fascinated by. I have also come up with an out for it in the cases that it fails... and it does fail.

Interesting. I've recently been doing something like, also. I gave it to myself as a challenge, a logical thinking puzzle, just for fun.

I haven't got anywhere near the final result yet, but I do feel I have gotten somewhere. My specifications are:

Impromptu (which means no set-up)
Ungimmicked (which means the deck can be borrowed)
100% Success Rate (Not based on a psychological force)

Maybe you'll be hearing more about this in 3 years time, or maybe I'll have abandoned it by then, who knows, but I'm not really one to abandon an idea.

Glad to hear you're someone who finds a good idea and sticks with it. Even with a bad idea, the best option is to stick with it until something great happens. For example, my colour changing deck effect called Negative Image started off as a bad idea, but after playing around with it for a year it has evolved into a rather visual and exciting close-up piece. I even used it in competition!
Liam

wich you came in second in, right?
Michael Kras

Oui Oui Smile

See what sticking with something to make it something worthwhile can do for you?
