The Trilogy by Dan and Dave Buck looks tremendously good, but I want to know if you think it is worth it. It looks like a good buy but I would like to hear a few small testimonials before clicking the Add To Cart button. Thoughts?

To be honest I think it was a bit of a waste for me. Most of the stuff there is a bit knuckle busting without providing much in the way of real benefit. That's to me anyway.

i own it!
and unless you are REALLY into flourishes, dont buy disk two.
If you kinda like flourishing, there is enough of that on disk three.

But disk one is the main point here, the one on magic.
i will now try to review all of the tricks

1) tivo transpo
An instant transposition inbetween a card ontop of the deck, and one in the middle.
Kinda messy. not to visual
**

2)Tivo 2.0
A later version of the effect discribed above.
This one is great no cover needed.
But it is VERY dificult, for me atleast. Still increadibly visual.
****

3)Subway
A selected card jumps from one packet into another, and into a sandwich of face up cards.
Not to hard, very visual, good reactions.
****

4)Card across
A selected card jumps from one packet to the other.
Very visual, but very hard handling. IMO, inferior to subway.
***

5)Card to mouth
A selected card is pushed flush, then it is already in your mouth.
A startling effect, fairly easy, good reactions
Same method as card across
****

6)Deja vu
A cool transpo in between sandwiches. One sandwich goes on the table, a second is picked up, and then they switch.
Very neat, great reactions, medium handling.
*****

7)Twinsplit remix
A three is "ripped" into an ace and a two, then put back together
Very hard handling, but very visual
***

8)Fission for aces.
Like the effect above, but from 8s to aces
Even harder handling
***

9)Hofzy Osbourne
My favourite on the disk.
Aces are put onto table
A card is selected then lost in the pack
Then one ace flips over, and it represents the suit lets say the heart
One card in the deck flips, lets say its a seven
So you now know their card is the seven of hearts, so you try to change the seven that was flipped into their card. But you accidently change it into the ace of hearts. You then flipp over the card that is flipped in the aces, and its their card.
Handling isnt that hard, very visual
*****

10)The Queens
Vanish the four queens one by one, then make them all re-appear.
Very visual, fairly easy.
****

11)Swiss Maid
A more visual version of the time traveling card trick
Very hard handling, very visual
***

12)Collectors
two selected cards a lost in the pack
Then in about two seconds, you have to cards sandwiched in face up aces, and they are the selections.
Very visual, not to hard.
*****

13)Hedbergs peak
You display the top two cards, lets say a 2 and a king. The 2 goes on bottom, king ontop. Then instantly the 2 is ontop again. You flip the deck to show the king is on bottom. But then you spread the deck, showing that the king is still ontop, and the 2 is still on bottom
Very visual, but knuckle busting.
****

14)Sixty Nine
Four sixs are shown, then you spin them around a bit, and they get so dizzy they trun into nines.
A bit to flourishy for my tastes, but a solid effect.
Very hard handling
***

I wanna say that i've been doing card magic for about 6 months, so these probably wouldnt be that hard for you.

Disk one is great, the rest arent worth it IMO.
Disk one: ****
Disk two:**
Disk three:***

Just got this set! A wonderful DVD set with tons of awesome card material. Definitely knuckle-busting though!

My favourite items are as follows:

Tricks- The Queens

Flourishes- Akira

Everything Else- Tg Murphy Deck Flip

To be completely honest, 95% of the stuff on the trilogy is useless to me.

There's no humour or entertainment, all just freaking people out sort of thing. PLus, major flourishes just show you're a card shark, not a magician.

I don't know, The Bucks take a simple effect and do the opposite of what Dai Vernon (i think) said, eliminate unnecessary moves basically. They throw in complicated sleights to do a very simple effect, not useful to me.

My opinion, can anybody second that?

You don't need humour in magic... many magicians don't use it at all. I find the effects very entertaining as well.

Secondly Card SHARK????? One of my pet peeves there... it's card SHARP!!!!! Razz

And finally, you don't need to perform the material on The Trilogy just as it is presented.. but sadly, most do. I personally simplify the routines there as much as possible to eliminate suspicion. Magic must look organic and natural to be magic. The way the Bucks perform is flash in the pan, flourishy stuff that in no way looks like magic. However, I personally bought the Trilogy to get some useful card stunts and moves suck as the 360 Deck Spin, the TG Murphy Deck Flip, Under Pressure, Heap Snatch, and the Molecule Spring Production.

The extras are the best.

PLus, i didn't mean humour always, just in general its best to kibbitz with your audience a little.

PLUS, it is a card SHARK.
