Storytime!
So I'm at a Wal-Mart in the hair cutting place buying new gunk for my hair. I pick it out and walk up to the counter. The lady is very nice, and we strike up some small talk about the quality of this particular brand of gel which of course is the reason for such a high price. I comment, "Yeah it's pricey, but it lasts me a long time because I only use it when performing." She says, "Oh, are you in a band?" I said, "No, no. I'm actually a professional magician."
She now responds, "Oh, that's great! So you, like, pull rabbits out of hats?"
*ouch*
Comments like this are going to happen simply because people have preconceived notions about magicians. To the children's magicians out there, bless your hearts. I've worked for kids and don't ever do it anymore. This type of comment just hits me wrong. I feel like going into an explanation of how I perform for private businesses, corporations, events throughout the state and I work exclusively for adults. Really though, she was just being nice and making small talk.
I guess the point of the story is that when you are faced with an innocent comment like this, no matter how much it irks you inside, put on a smile and be polite. For instance I've approached tables in my restaurant work and had the response, "No thank you. Why don't you go entertain the kids over there?"
*sigh*

Excellent story, Brian! Very interesting with a great lesson to it. Just out of curiousity, what was the hair gunk you bought? _________________ Michael Kras

I love that stuff, but its a little pricey for me, 'cause I spike my hair all the time, and its also my stage look. I've found that "L.A. works" is good enough, and it lasts me awhile, and best of all, its pretty cheap. _________________ "Where reality ends, and your imagination begins"

Has anyone actually see a rabit pulled from a hat?
I think that is a common misconception.
