I was shocked, genuinely, when I flipped through this sub-forum and found not one post about Jay Sankey. so, this will be it! A place to discuss Sankey-isms, Sankey comedy, past Sankey products, and future news and gossip about The Sankster.

For starters... what is your favourite effect or product by Sankey? Why do you like it?

My favourite DVD of Sankey's thus far is Revolutionary Card Magic. It is hugely long (which is great) and contains some of the most off the wall, original card ideas I've ever seen. I think his Practice Pack routine is worth the price of the DVD alone. FANTASTIC!

Effect-wise, I'd have to say Killer Key so far my favourite. It's so practical, strong, impossible, and the gimmick is brilliant. Classic Sankey thinking!

My favorite DVDs are Revolutionary Coin Magic, Secret Files, and the Sankey/Sanders Sessions.

Both books Zen and the Art of Stand-Up Comedy and Beyond Secrets are absolutely genius and some of the best money I've ever spent.

As individually sold effects go, I absolutely love Single Ambition from his original line of products at Elmwood Magic.

I won't rant about Jay here because most of you know how much I love Jay's work, and if you own any of my work there's a good chance you've seen me credit Jay multiple times.  Perhaps we can have a Sankfest sometime and just rant about the greatness that is Jay Sankey.

Hehehe, I also have a copy of Hemispheres on its way. Should be good!

Anybody ever heard any of his stand-up comedy? What do you think of his comedy in general? I think he's absolutely hilarious, but then again I'm fairly twisted myself. I have his stand-up CD "Odd Little Man" and it is hilarious. At his lecture over a year ago in Hamilton, he had the audience dying of laughter with his completely zany off-the-cuff humour. I STILL remember a lot of it to this day.

When I saw Jay lecture, he performed his effect Circumference from the Supernatural DVD. He started by shaking the tiny envelope and making some funny random statements about what the shaking object in the envelope sounded like. He then said "Sorry, I didn't take my meds today". Then another older woman in the audience piped up and said, in reference to the shaking envelope, "It sounds like horses galloping!"

Jay looked at her and without missing a beat, said "Maybe YOU'RE the one who's off the meds."

Oh, and another person decided to take out his cellphone to take a photo of Jay during the lecture. Jay turned to him, tore the cellphone out of his hand, took a ridiculous close-up photo of his face, then threw the guy's cellphone into his magic case casually. We were all in hysterics.

One of my friends started laughing so hard, tears started pouring down his face. Jay leaned in so his face was right up close to my friend's, and he started making observations and announcing them to the rest of the audience... "Guys, this is just bizarre... not only is he laughing and crying at the same, but he's only crying from ONE EYE! The other eye is completely dry".. and so forth.

At the risk of being tared and feathered...

I'm actually not a fan of Sankey's work.

Well sir, you are entitled to your opinion.  You're wrong, but you're entitled nonetheless.   Laughing

I don't have any tar, but plenty of feathers. Let me find a sticky substitute while LIVR tries to tell us exactly why he doesn't like Mr. Sankey.

I never said I didn't like Mr. Sankey. I found him to be a very nice person.

But magically speaking, while I admit he has a massive creative output, he he clearly emphasizes quantity over quality.

WHAT HAS HE BEEN DOING?

Posting a billion videos explaining the methods to a billion of his effects... has he lost his mind? (Stupid question)

This is obviously marketing-driven, but once people learn all the freaking effects off his DVDs then he will definitely not be making nearly as many sales.
