Hey everybody, this is an idea that came to me a while ago at a McDonalds with my family. It's a great "hypnosis" mentalism effect, hopefully it is original, and it works 100% everytime (not a complete suggestion). Tell me what you think! And best of all, 100% IMPROMPTU. No set up/preperation, and no sleights or false moves.

Location: McDonalds

Effect: The performer asks is the spectator has every been hypnotized before. "No", they reply, so the magi says he'll demonstrate a small performance of this, since it is an on the fly situation. He then asks the spectator to reach into the basket of straws and remove ANY one she wants, and then to place it on the table. This is explained to be the object in which we will test the hypnosis.

He asks the spectator to close their eyes, and to hold out an arm. After some pre-hypnosis hullaballoo (you can play it up as MUCH as you want here, taking pulse and such, blah blah), the magician asks the spectator to wake up, or open her eyes. He then proceeds to remove the straw from the wrapper and place it on the table in front of the spec. He instructs her to attempt to lift the straw from the table using only her arm muscles, no finger movements, as her arm muscles are much larger and will display a higher effect of hypnosis if they are weakened (this is optional, but recommended). As she attempts to lift the straw, she replies that the straw feels like it is thousands of pounds, and that it she is almost COMPLETELY unable to lift the straw free off the table.

He takes his well deserved bow.

Thoughts? No moves, sleights, COMPLETELY undetectable to anybody, as nothing funny happens. And no, it is not complete suggestion!

I'm anxious to hear your thoughts! PS. Been on a creative rampage lately, so...

Sounds like a great idea! You've told me the method, which I like but, until I try it, am skeptical about. However, you say you've improved it, so I'd love to see it!

Nothing at all, they dont even have to have their eyes closed, its just part of the act. they could get the straw before or after, but before is preferred.
