Fun day today!
Josh Jay and I spent the whole day together today (awww), which was awesome. There are people I consider friends (people whose company I like regardless of activity, and who I can count on and trust), and people I consider magic friends (guys I can bounce ideas off, get feedback from, and chat with about history, technique, etc).
Josh is a rare combination of both. I value his feedback (more then almost anyone else's) and I love spending time with him. Truth be told, he's one of the main reasons to come to NY.
Him, and... the MOMA.
So, I had a great day today because I got both. Josh and the MOMA. For art lovers it was so exciting- seeing the works of Juan Miro, Georgio deChirico, Yeavs Tangyue, and others.*
As a magic buff it was pretty exciting siting the the beautiful MOMA garden, surrounded by wonderful instillation pieces (Like Picasso's Goat) and having Josh a) compliment me on my material (My favorite moment, after fooling him, was him laughing and saying "where was all this last time I saw you?!?") and b) giving me some GREAT feedback.
Josh has seen SOOO much magic, and does such exceptional work, that he has a fantastic eye for this stuff. One trick, for instance, that I've been showing guys around Toronto for MONTHS, getting almost NO feedback or suggestions about, got a TOTAL overhaul with Josh. We tightened up the routine, changed the second sequence so it progressed better, eliminated the need to go back to the deck, improved the revelation of the climax (by changing the timing of the revelations), and provided a better cover to accomplish the kicker.
Several things we worked on today we're seriously improved. It was also nice to be able to reciprocate- Toronto guys think differently then New York guys (people from all cities think differently, which is why it's so great to travel) so I was able to provide him with a solution for one of his new problems, and some presentational ploys for a new piece he was working on.
We also went out for dinner, which was much needed. I ate some bad food on Saturday night and hadn't eaten since, so after skipping breakfast, lunch, dinner, and another breakfast and lunches I was pretty famished. We went to this GREAT Kosher Tai restaurant, then retired too do some business (Me with the tour coming up, and my new website, and Josh with... well... maybe that's for him to tell you!).
We finished that then headed out to the Grenich Village for the "best Crapes in New York". I got the Apple/Walnut/Caramel crepe and have to admit, it was the best I'd ever had (sorry mom!). We did some more magic, talked about taking a trip to Egypt, about the business side of magic, about school, life, and girls, then headed home to sleep.
It's 3 am now and I'm going to watch some videos, then head to sleep. We have to wake up early tomorrow to get tickets to a broadway play. But, you'll have to turn in tomorrow for that!

*I'm sure I misspelled those names. Sorry, I'm too tired to fix them. If you type the names into google you'll have no problems finding their works. And, honestly, you should.
