A story... Last week, I was in Niagara, more specifically Clifton Hill, a wonderful tourist attraction. It's sort of like the Canadian version of Las Vegas.

Anyways, waiting in line for the Ripley's 3D Moving Theatre, two 20 something American girls saw me toying with my cards and asked to see a trick.

I ended up performing a Sandwich routine, and when the selection was to be cut back into the deck I executed a rather fancy flourishy cut to do so. I don't know why I did it, maybe just subconsciously trying to really impress these girls, they weren't bad-looking.

They didn't respond visually or audibly to this display.... usually new spectators do as they normally do not see things like that. I continued, finished the effect, and decided to do one more... Twisting The Aces.

Here's the kicker... as I spread through the deck quickly, upjogging the aces, the girls giggled and said "Wow, he's doing that so quickly!!!"

They don't react to a flourishy cut, but they react to my casual removal of four cards from a deck.

What lesson did I learn? You don't need flash to prove your skills... flash often just overproves and in some cases can make you look like an arrogant jerk. Also, things like that show your trying to do something, while the things we do like upjogging needed cards from a deck are done more casually and are therefore more impressive.
